Apricot is produced for cash crops and is also popular in India. It is called the fruit of the peach species. Most of the world’s Apricot farming is done in Turkey. In India, it is done in the Himalayan regions, which includes the states of Uttarakhand, Himachal and Kashmir. Moreover, the height of its plant is normal, in which pink, black, yellow, white and brown fruits emerge, and seeds like almonds appear inside the fruit.
Necessary Steps For Apricot Farming
Soil Requirements For Apricot Farming
Apricot plants require well-drained, fertile soil. Sandy loam soil is also suitable for apricot farming, and the pH value of the land should be neutral. Also, do not cultivate it in waterlogged and hard soil.
Suitable Climate For Apricot Farming
Apricots can be easily cultivated in areas 1000 to 2000 metres above sea level with the help of a Massey Dynatrack tractor. Apricot plants can grow well in both temperate and temperate climates.
Temperate regions where the climate remains warm for a longer period. Do not cultivate it there because the fruiting is affected when the climate is hot for a long time. The winter season is suitable for plants. But during the formation of flowers on the plants, the frost that falls in the cold causes harm and normal rain is ideal for its plants.
Normal temperature suits apricot farming, and plant growth is good in low temperatures. Its plants need a 7-degree temperature for 700 to 800 hours during the development of fruit. Flowers start to deteriorate when the temperature is less than 5 degrees.
Apricot Farming Field Preparation
Pits are made for sowing apricot plants in the field. Before preparing the pit, the soil has to be pulverised. For this, in the beginning, deep ploughing is done with a Mahindra 265 tractor after cleaning the area because the Mahindra 265 price is reasonable. Then, the soil is pulverised by ploughing with a rotavator. For levelling the friable soil, put a plank in the field. Due to this, there is no water logging in the field during the rainy season.
Pits are prepared on flat land, and all these pits are prepared in rows. During this, a distance of 5 to 6 metres is kept between pit to pit, and there should be a distance of 5 metres between row to row.
After this, a proper quantity of organic and chemical fertilisers has to be mixed in the prepared pits and filled in the pits. After filling the pits, they are deeply watered so that the hole’s soil becomes hard by sitting properly. Prepare these pits about three months before transplanting.
Apricot Farming Seedling Preparation
The grafts are prepared in the nursery for sowing the apricot seedlings. The plants prepared from cuttings have the same properties as the main plant in all these methods. But the grafted plants prepared by the seed method have fewer qualities than the main plants. Its seedlings can be prepared in the nursery after the rainy season and are transplanted in spring.
Today, many nurseries are registered by the government, from which seedlings can be bought for less money. That’s why farmer brothers can also buy apricot seedlings from direct nurseries for Apricot farming. While buying saplings, take special care that the plants should be healthy to grow properly.
Planting The Apricot Plants
Apricot plants are sown in pits made in the soil. For this, a small pit is ready in the middle of the pit. After preparing it, the pit is treated with cow urine or Bavistin. Then, the seedlings prepared in the nursery are planted in the holes. Later, cover the plants up to some height by pouring soil all around.
Planting of apricot seedlings can be done till March, July, and August. When there is proper arrangement of irrigation, plant the plants in March. Plants need more care at this time. The plants can be sown in non-irrigated places in June. During this, there is a rainy season, so Apricot farming gets the proper environment to grow.
Irrigation Of Plants
Apricot farming requires moderate irrigation. Plants must be watered three to four times in the summer season, and less water is needed in the winter. In the summer, plants are irrigated for 7 to 9 days; in the winter, plants are to be watered for 20 to 25 days. If it does not rain on time in the rainy season, give water according to the need. Drip irrigation is considered better for watering apricot plants.
Weed Control
Natural methods are used to control weeds in apricot farming. For this, in the beginning, after one month of transplanting, when weeds appear near the plant, do a light wedding. Its plants require a maximum of 7 to 8 weeding. But do three to four weeding of fully prepared plants in a year. If additional crops have not been grown on the vacant land in the field, apply light ploughing after the rainy season.
Apricot Fruit Picking
Apricot plants start yielding about 3 to 4 years after transplanting. Fruiting on its plants begins in April. Apart from this, other varieties are prepared from June to July in Apricot farming. Break its fruits before they ripen completely so that the fruit can be sent over long distances.
The colour of ripe apricot fruits varies depending on the variety. When its fruits become soft, then harvest the fruits, after sorting the fruits based on quality, store them in boxes and send them to the markets.
